  • Van Training

The following steps are required if you will be renting a passenger van for travel, or if your department requires you to operate a department owned/leased van on campus. If obtaining van certification for trips or travel, please ensure approval is granted by the appropriate Provost, department Chair or Vice President. Please note in order to receive van training, you must complete Basic Training, which is requested in Step 1. There is a $50 administrative fee for this service. Please follow the steps below to enable a faster training experience.

Step 1 – Submit request for Basic Authorized Driver certification

If you have your Basic Authorized Driver certifications, please skip to Step 2.

  • You must have an active Basic Authorized Driver certificate to apply or renew a Van Authorized Driver certificate. If you do not have the Basic Authorized Driver certificate, you are required to click Basic Authorized Driver certificate option in the form.

Once you submit the Basic Authorized Driver Certification Form, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will review and approve your request. You will receive an email with the link for Canvas Defensive Driving training course. You need to pass the quiz in this module to proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 – Submit request for Van Authorized Driver Certification

Please complete the electronic Drivers Authorization Certification Form and request the Van Authorized Driver Certificate option. Transit Services will review and approve your request. You will receive an email with the link for training courses.

Step 3 – Complete Canvas Course(s) and pass Final Exam

Prior to arrival and registration, one must complete the following prerequisites: Canvas Class: Van Certification Training and final exam.

This online class is essential to the fulfillment and completion of the final exam as it will give you all the necessary information regarding correct driving mechanisms while handling these larger HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles). This course should take around 1-1.5 hours to complete.

Step 4: Register and successfully complete Skills Course

After completing the Canvas course, you will receive an email from Transit Services with the link to register to take the skills portion of the training at your convenience.  When registering, you must provide payment of the $50 administrative fee to complete the registration. Part two should take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

We are not authorized to provide parking passes or tickets to those students who are attending Van Training.
